Class News Article - Week 9 Term One - 2008

Grade 6R Article for Cluster Newsletter - Week 9 Term 1

Parents and Guardians

Thank you for your overwhelming support and assistance given throughout this term. This term has been busy but rewarding for every child. There were new concepts being taught and new skills introduced which kept individuals on task. Every child in class is now more focused in working towards their weekly class and individual goals written in their Student Planners.

There is a lot of more settled work habits noticed and a lot of students are becoming matured and more in tune with class expectations and discipline plan. Students are also consistent with their homework completion and there is a lot of creativity and original work displayed whilst working on completing homework and assignments. We have our final class project due on Friday week 9 and I am looking forward to receiving a wide range of creative work presented on coloured charts about the Time line of their Life Journey.

Thank you also for being supportive in assisting your child with the required materials needed for our art and craft work and also Technology projects.

Please continue to talk to me through the Students’ Planner or simply send me an email and also do not hesitate to see me regarding your child’s progress.

Grade 6 Assembly
The grade 6s will host the assembly tomorrow (08/02/2008) after big lunch from 12:30—1:30. Please come along and celebrate your child’s learning with us.

Student Planner
Each child is issued a temporary student planner which includes a number of information about the Thinking Tools used, sections for their daily planning, their goals for the week, homework
organisation and also reading log entry. Please assist your child in checking their planners daily to ensure that they are on track. There is also a space in the student planner where you are able to communicate with me regarding information about your child.

Home Reading
Most students are taking chapter books as they are independent readers. Assist your child and monitor their reading so they are on track and also maintain that consistency of daily reading.

Home Work
Homework is given to support the learning that happens at school and in the classroom. It also encourages the students to take responsibility for some out of class learning. Homework also encourages independent study and investigation. It provides an opportunity for parents to become engaged in the child’s school learning.

Home Work Schedule
Home work will be given according to the Home Work Schedule. I have sent out the Home Work Schedule which outlines the different types of homework to be given out.
Assist your child by checking their homework. I will also inform you if your child is inconsistent with homework so you are aware.

Specialist Timetable
Specialist classes have resumed and these include Physical Education which are swimming and dry sports, music and Technology. Apart from that, students are taken to the library fortnightly to do research based on the theme study for the term. Every child was issued with a specialist timetable to help them remember and also to bring appropriate gear on that day.

Thinking Tools

We will be using a range of thinking tools which are the 6 Thinking Hats, Multiple Intelligences and the 16 Habits of Mind.
